Perennial orchard systems are growing high value food products which are much in demand. They tend to be very intensively managed, an rely on a heavy use of synthetic fertilizer and pesticides. The next up is grazing, or shifting from annual cropping to perennial grass lands that stores carbon. And then the third after that is perman crop systems and perennial woody tree crops, and then beyond that, forestry.
