Introduction
A hero properly is someone who has given his life to something bigger than himself. Joseph Campbell effectively reduced all the world's mythologies and found cohesive structure which all of these stories share. A circular journey where you start in a certain position, you descend into a special world, and then you come back - that's the shorthand. To show how it applies, we're going to use two examples from mainstream law, Star Wars from the 70s, and The Matrix from 1999.
