Luther's Political Patronage Is Crucial for Lutheranism and Reform Protestantism

Luther is critically dependent on his prince, the electro-Prince Frederick of Saxony. If he hadn't done that, if he had just said, okay, I take him, Luther might well have gone to Rome. There are many more versions of Protestantism in the 16th century than Lutheranism and Reform Protestantism. The reason why they do that is because they have sustained political protection.
