Is There a Parallel Between Technology and Cults?

I find cults fascinating because they're kind of like vertically integrated, persuasive environments. You are designing the social relationships and power dynamic between a person standing in front of an audience. And so I've done a little bit of sort of undercover investigation of some of these things. Many of these things are none of these cults ever would call themselves cults. But you start seeing parallels in the dynamics.
