Cost push inflation occurs when the cost of raw materials inflates. Businesses have to raise prices in order to maintain their margins and profits. It can quickly spiral into a recession, whereby there's high inflation and there's a recession. The government wants to provide stimulus, but they have to choose between adding more fuel to this inflationy fire or letting people suffer through a sion.
