The Sacrifice of the Mass
The church has recognized that we offer the sacrifice of the mass for those who have died. The Saint Sarah of Jerusalem says this in 1371. She said, I simply ask you to remember me at the Lord's altar wherever you are. From the very beginning here, that's the fourth century from the very beginning. It was a custom of the church.
