The Byback Guarantees That Publishers Offer to Book Retailers
Booksellers only have to pay for books that they have sold, and can actually return unsold books to the publisher at the publisher's expense. That was a good practice for simon and chester, simply because it enabled them to continue selling books. But now we just continue doing it that way, and it has become an established practice. And once booksellers are also used to this, and actually publishes as well, it becomes very difficult to stop it.
