Having health insurance doesn't really necessarily protect you from medical debt. It can hamper people's ability to access care when they need it, or a pay for pharmaceudical prescriptions. Studies have shown that medical debt actually is a link to worseing health status,. higher levels of pain and even increased mortality risk. People with debt concerns have tripled the incidents of mental health conditions such as anxiety, stress or depression.
