The King's Feast in Norse Literature

The first Norse reference to yule is in ninth century harald scfadi which is a praise poem. The poet praises the king's toughness and saying that he intends to drink yule yule dreka at sea rather than in the comfort of the heated house. There were other kinds of feasts but we we know that it was definitely had that kind of um thing. It's hard to know what it was like for people who didn't have close contact to the king because we have a couple of other references to yule which also give us insights.
