O C D, Isn't It a Joke?
When i started out in the late seventys, early agies, people didn't know what o c d was. Now we've moved on from that, because people do now use the term, but as you say, it's used in a flippant way, as if it's a joke. It's used to describe people that are are clean and tidy, or fussy. And i always say to people that, of course, o s d is actually on a continuum. We all have some obsessions and some compulsions at some times in our lives,. But mostly they pass in o su d. They continue if the activities you're doing an the compulsions you have
