The Power of Seniority in American Politics

American politics is governed by rules and procedures that aren't constitutionally written down. There's nothing in the constitution that says that the Senate should be run on seniority basis. So just by being somebody who just sticks around like Joe Biden coming in at age 30 just gives you this advantage over anyone who comes in as a junior senator from wherever in in their 50s or 60s.
