Is There a Difference Between Digital Currency and Cryptocurrency?

The white house is talking about creating a digital currency. What would be the difference between a us? Digital currency and the currency that we currently have, that we can move around digitally? There are some potential gains to be had by cutting out the middle man in terms of the banking system. But it's all kind of a bit of smoke in mirrors, because what the fete is really doing right now, as far as i can tell, is there we see, i've marked it.
