Jesus Heals the Blind Man

This story is an emphatic reminder and a metaphor for the disciple's lack of understanding who jesus is. Sight and hearing are metaphors for understanding. In both instances, jesus heals in manner that normally would not aid in the healing. The disciples are somewhere in this first stage, where jesus spits in the man's eyes. I don't know why jesus spat in his eye. We'll have to ask him when we get to heaven.
