According to this theory, a doctor named William Poole paid a visit to an elderly woman living in some cabin in Nags Head in the summer of 1867. And it was there that he discovered a painting on polished mahogany, 20 inches in length and enclosed in a frame rich richly gilded. Theodosha Burr-Alston is believed to have been on board the Patriot when it left Port in Georgetown. This story says that the painting was actually originally intended as a gift to Aaron Burr.
