After World War II, Adolf Eichmann escaped to Argentina where he would remain in hiding for 15 years. Israel's Mossad tracked him down and captured him on the streets of Buenos Aires in 1960. Two days before he was hanged on May 29, 1962, Eichmann sent a letter to then Israeli President Yitzhak Isaac Ben Zvi asking for pardon. It's fitting that 1 Samuel 15 was invoked for a righteous execution because it is God's holy and righteous command for the execution of the wicked Amalekites.
