The Septuagint and the End of Jewish History

The first Temple of Jerusalem was destroyed around 586 BCE. For Augustine's generation of Christians, this was effectively the end of anything of particular interest in ancient Jewish history. Today we know that a great deal of the Hebrew Bible was written long after the Babylonian captivity. The apocalyptic Inaukian corpus shows that exceedingly Christian-sounding stuff was on the ground in and around modern-day Israel before Jesus lived.
