You need inks that adhere very well or it will flake off One of the standard inks used on parchment Not only adhered well, but is slightly corrosive and over time is capable of eating away at the parchment. The other thing about parchment is even though it's pretty darn thin It's still thicker than paper certainly So if you want to you can take apart a book you no longer want erase it You know scrape off the surface with pumice or whatever And then rewrite on the surface if you could get it polished  called a palimps instead right? palimpsest Um This is interesting for European history because if you're lucky you can see the text behind
