Is there a sense that access to energy is what has concentrated certain populations in certain places? I'm not sure about concentrating people in different places, but we've seen the transformative effect of access to abundant energy. Norway was a very poor country in the 50s and used its energy wealth to establish itself as reasonably high performing equal society. We have 2.8 billion people today who can't cook cleanly because they're using dirty cooking materials. The impact on them are everything from lung disease to their cognitive abilities as they grow up breathing toxic air.
