I Hated the Boycott

Dr. Robert Merrick took over a superintendent just after the centennial party. He set up PTAs, established a curriculum council staffed by parents and teachers. His tenure was so successful that some white parents began to return their children to the public schools. When he retired in 1994, the number of white students had doubled to 14% of enrollment.
