The Importance of Safety in the Commercial Sub Industry
The sub was launched in international water, so it didn't have to abide by the US Coast Guard regulations. The passenger vessel Safety Act of 1993 was enacted to prohibit dives past 150 feet and provide strict inspection and manufacturer requirements for subs. Ocean Gate's Stockton Rush told an interviewer there hasn't been an injury in the commercial sub industry in over 35 years. He said: "Some point, safety just is pure waste"
