The Origins of Fortran
IBM's Fortran programming language was released in 1958. It became one of the de facto languages for computers, spreading beyond just the IBM 704. Grace Hopper would stay active in the computer industry for decades and decades to come. Without that shift, the modern world may have turned out much less computerized.
