Christie uses the word church, she's making it proper to Christians rather than externalizing the blame onto the Jews. I was very struck by that too, almost to the point where because I don't have the same sort of confidence as you clearly are Sarah. She is putting a lot of thought into how she was characterizing people and different faiths and whatnot. It does feel respectful. And I think it kind of shows that this is the focus of this story,. The purpose of this story really is different from what she's doing in her mystery.
