In 1988, the Ohio Medical Board labeled Bert grossly unprofessional and charged him with 41 violations of ethics. The board said that he regularly caused permanent physical damage due to his experimental and medically unnecessary surgical procedures. In January of 1989, Dr. Bert surrendered his license in order to avoid a medical board hearing that might have uncovered information even more damning than the stuff we've talked about today.
