"We don't know about the future. We just have to hope about the future," he says. "This document, it has worked with its ups and downs and plenty of downs." The Constitution is a platform for deliberation where people can respectfully debate without being disagreeable or passionate; that's an important part in respect to democracy. It will be whether the experiment succeeds or not if we're fighting a great war against slavery now.
