When i first started writing this book, i was only paying attention to what was on screen. The more research i did, the more i realized that jews were clear being made and remade during production. And then i realized that watching jewish movies also makes jews, that is, helps to shape viewers sense of themselves as jews. So when i invoke movieme jews,. I'm not only talking about the jews on screen, but also those behind the scenes and those munching on popcorn in theatres, were on their couches. A unanticipated research gold really led directly to the production and reception angle of the book.
