The Role of Philanthropy in the History of Cybernetics

The book is written as a comparative history in which both France and the United States play a decisive role in thinking about new ideas of information. Cyber next doesn't get big until the 50s and 60s in France. And so in a way, once you look at what's happening in France in the 50s or 60s it belongs to a proliferation of modernizing laboratories attached to French state universities. In the US philanthropy plays a big role in higher education but there are also political motivations behind that.
