One in five women in the U.S. are raped or sexually assaulted at some point in their life, often by someone they knew and trusted. The impact of sexual violence goes far beyond any physical injuries. When you've been raped, the world doesn't feel like a safe place anymore. You may struggle with PTSD, anxiety, depression. But it's important to remember that when you're experiencing a normal reaction to trauma, your feelings of helplessness, shame, the defectiveness, self-blame are symptoms, not reality.
