The Romantic Fallacy - A Novel Review
William guppy is an interesting character in that he seems to fall between those two positions. A lot of it is part of what used to be called the pathetic fallacy, which is to say that in romantic writing, poetry and fiction, the landscape and the weather take on the emotional experiences that are being undergone by the hearoes of the book. The things around him are are transformed by him. And so you can look on the book as having a lot of that.
