Winthrop, the First Colonist in the Royal Society
He was the first person residing in the colonies to become a member of the royal society. In 16 64, he took part and helped the english take over of new netherlands. After that point, after 16 64, it really seems that he tried very hard to get out of politics. And to focus fully on his studies and on his businesses. But he was prevented. The connecticut colony kept electing him governor over and over again, against his wishes. He somehow managed to balance his intellectual and scientific pursuits and his business enterprises and politics.
