In 1795, Bolton and Watt found out that Iron-Mad had been using their design to sell people the steam engine himself without paying any royalties. As a result, some violent letters were sent back and forth, and litigation followed. In 1804, Oliver Evans patented a quote-unquote vibrating steam engine which put the furnace inside the water-filled cylinder.
