GPT-3 came out of surprise by saying, you don't even need to fine tune anything. You can just out of a box say do this and it'll actually do very well. I remember hearing or reading about an interview that Jack Clark gave one of the co-founders of Anthropic where he was saying the moment for them was actually GPT-2. So just goes to show how far back these things go.
