What's Up With the Costumes?
Jean Jainé wrote a play. It's called the balcony and this had three versions and they were sort of scattered out between 1956 and 1962. The setting is a small town where there is a revolution brewing. Now, these scared, feckless cowards that run the city, well, they force the sex workers to trade clothes with them so they can slip out the back. And who cares who wears the costume? Because we all know people are shaped to the role society confers upon them.
