How to Be Indirect When You're Talking to People
In the us, it's important to be more indirect when you're talking to people. We are not a direct culture and so we ask a lot of indirect questions. It was standard for kids to ask to be excused before they left the table. This almost never happens nowadays. So i think that this died out a couple of generations ago.
