The Biggest Cattle Drives
The heyday of the enormous cattle droves starts quickly in 1866 and then continues till about 1880 or so. These men had very difficult harsh dangerous conditions of work trying to move say 5000 or 10,000 head of cattle northward up the Chislam Trail through the prairies on the open great plains. There's a remarkable amount of actually surviving records of this experience because these were adult American men who wrote about their experiences in journals.
