Indonesia produces a smaller share of greenhouse gases than its share of the global population. The U.S. produces per capita, roughly seven times the carbon emissions of Indonesia. China has four times the number of people. So the average American still pumps out about double the climate warming pollution of the average person in China.

Southeast Asia is especially vulnerable to storms, rising oceans, and other climate effects—though countries in the region did very little to create the crisis.
