What's So Interesting About Memory?
Scientific study of memory tends to focus on relatively short term things that are hard to remember. But we learn at a high level of detail very, very quickly and store them well. An important thing to keep in mind about memory is that it's not about the past. We don't have memories so we can think about things that happened in the past. Instead they help us do what we're doing now by helping us be ready for the future.
