Is the Time Traveller's Intellectual Background Important in Understanding the Relationship Between the Eloy and the Morlocks?

The time traveller's intellectual background, as a scientist, he is holding up a rational scientific world view. But e i think his explanation of the bifocation of humanity into the eloy and the morlocks, i think that is the kind of explanation that any intelligent person might have thought of. So i don't think it's specifically scientific i think it's just a rational and attempt at a rational explanation of what has happened. Do you think if he were of a priestly background, he probably wouldn't have undertaken the journey in the first place?
