The Four Functions of Mythology

We don't have a sense of tao in the west as they do in the east. The word tao means path or way. And so there is a whole sociological function of myth in the story that you just saw. Its a wonderful allegory of what happens when some one follows her or his own intuitive understanding. We need this grounding. Society needs it.
