I don't think we could have been as reliable when it comes to detecting bias as we in fact are. Why is that? I think that generally speaking, so again, think about the belief case where it's characteristic of the biased believer to have formed beliefs that systematically depart from the truth. We don't have our access to the truth is immediate by our own beliefs. It's no accident that we won't be good at picking up on these kinds of systematic departures from theTruth.
