Is This Utterly Unheard of in the History of American Law?

In Connecticut and Texas, Jones was told he could only answer yes, no, or I don't know. He couldn't mention a whole bunch of words or topics in his own defense. This is utterly unprecedented in the history of American law. Nothing like this has ever happened. It's even worse than the Chicago seven trial where Bobby Seal was gagged.
