What Is Plea Bargaining?
Plea bargaining is when the defendant and prosecutor agree on a sentence. The judge can either accept the guilty plea with that sentence, or have to reject the guilty plea altogether. It creates an incentive for people in congress to pass laws with really harsh punishments because then it creates leverage for prosecutors to get people to plead guilty. I understand why it's very attractive to pros tors and defendants, but i think that it's really warped the criminal justice system.
