The Importance of Books in the Information Economy
I think people find it an appealing way to kind of push back against a lot that seems really out of hand to them. People feel like the debate is so far so the information ecosystem is out of their control, their impulse to police small spaces intensifies. I'd say during the Trump administration that hateful attitudes were running rampant in society writ large and so in this little environment that we have in the federal we're absolutely not going to tolerate it. So books is something they can control it's a place where they can take a stand where they can assert and project and signal their values publicly.
