Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show
William F. Cody launched Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show in 1883. It included almost half of the performers were indigenous Americans. But they were not treated as villains or savages, he says. They were given dignified roles in the show. And this was a crucial step in the mythologization of the cowboy and made the cowboy into a sort of heroic, larger-than-life national figure.
