The Evolution of Neanderthal DNA
Most people have somewhere between 2% and 3% Neanderthal ancestry. If we were to gather up all of the bits of Neanderthal DNA that's scattered in the genomes of people who are alive today, we could put together about 93% of the Neanderthal genome. Are Neanderthals actually extinct if 93% of their genomes still persist among us? That's an interesting philosophical question nonetheless.
