The Effect of Joy on the Value of an Autograph
He didn't want to be cow-towed too. He wanted to be stretched. One effect you can see of Joy is in Letters to Malcolm, Chief Leon Prayer. It's a fictional correspondence with Malcolm but several times he says, oh your wife made this comment and I wanted to respond to that. So he sees himself responding to them as a couple rather than an individual. That dynamic would have come up in his mind unless he'd been married to Joy just a few years earlier.
