The Importance of Realism in the Church

In the book, you talk about unrealistic expectations. God did not give us the church as an escape from the problems and imperfections, but so that we could have the gift of each other even in our imperfection. So I think step one is to come into the church with realistic expectation that not everyone's perfect. You're going to be let down and you're going to let someone. Scripta tells us how to address it for the sake of reconciliation. Forgiveness does involve an acknowledgement of wrongdoing. And so acknowledge the wrong that was done and don't sweep it under the rug, right? The humility to know that we are going to be doing the hurting at times.
