Vanderbilt helped locate a spot in which to erect the obelisk. It's an incredible task, actually, because it's the heaviest thing anybody's attempted to move on a ship across a great ocean. The man that i had mentioned just earlier, goringe he was the man with the plan. He received the commission in august f 18 70 in. As a brother, he had this duty to bring it back to the new land. When gorringe would later study the obelsk, he would discover what he believed at the time to be masonic symbols written many years ago.
