How to Get People Engaged With a Game

In net hack, you have to be way more cautious and nat cant just like, haphazardly jump around like a goot. And it may be is just as fun, if not more fun, in that situation. I don't think there are a lot of game designers who are out there in to solve the meta problem of how to get people engaged with the game. In most games, that's not a huge problem.
