The level of atrocities that were going on, combined with the unpopularness of the war is going to have massive effects on all those soldiers psychologies. A lot of warfare had started to move away from large numbers of soldiers fighting against each other in a very personal, very face to face environment and moved towards more distant things like air power or long distance artillery.
