The Importance of Faith in Cathedrals
It's quite a modern phenomenon to want your name attached to things like that. In the middle ages, if you're writing a book, it's normally a religious book. And I guess the same is true of the people building the churches. Faith is certainly by no means driving these cathedrals. It is rivalries, competition. That's exactly what is going on. We can just look, for example, at Wells Cathedral. They keep losing their cathedral seat to Bath and Glass and Brie as well. Why? There are a load of complex reasons.
